Why Use My Swaddle Blankie TM?
Swaddling of infants has been common practice throughout the world for thousands of years. It has been shown that wrapping an infant snugly comforts them and immobilizing the arms prevents the "moro", or startle reflex thus allowing them to sleep more soundly.
My Swaddle Blankie TM helps infants to be swaddled from birth ensuring a safer & cozier way to sleep
Important Tips when using My Swaddle Blankie TM
If your baby seems too warm, dress her in a diaper and My Swaddle Blankie TM only.
The room temperature where your baby sleeps should be comfortable for a lightly dressed adult (67-72°F).
As your baby grows, the blanket may seem loose around her legs. This is perfectly okay. This will allow for proper movement and development of the hip and knee joints.
It is best to wrap your baby very snugly. It's normal for her to fuss when first wrapped - especially the first few times. But don't worry, after a week or two most babies begin to relax at the mere sight of the blanket.
Be sure that the blanket is NOT touching your baby's cheeks. This may trigger her "Rooting Response" and may wake her. If the blanket is touching her cheeks, you have wrapped her too low in the blanket. You must be sure the top of the blanket is slightly below the tops of her shoulders.
It is very important to thread the arm flap thru the slit securely and flat under your baby's back to keep your baby from working her arms free and waking herself. This also keeps your baby's arms in the most effective position - at her sides.
Many babies prefer to have their feet free.
Safety Concerns:
Too much fabric- Larger blankets allow for too many redundant folds that may bunch and cause discomfort. The size of My Swaddle Blankie TM is exactly the size needed to accomplish its purpose and not an inch extra. The special shape of the blankets puts every square inch where it is needed. Extra fabric has no place in a crib.
Hoods- Hoods on a blanket are one more hazard to avoid with regard to overheating. It can also cause the baby to root for a food source when they are groggy, thereby waking them up. Hoods are for cold, outside weather.
VELCRO- It seems like a good idea - it's the easy and cheap way out - but babies can eventually get loose from any blanket. We have heard numerous reports of the less expensive blankets causing very uncomfortable scratches and abrasions on arms, faces and legs of babies who struggle against the Velcro closures.
Multiple blankets (or "blanket inside of a blanket") - Overheating has been accepted as a serious danger. If a baby needs to be warmer, then simply put more snug-fitting baby clothes on the baby; DO NOT USE THICKER, LARGER MULTI-LAYERED BLANKETS!
